The quote “The truth hurts” comes to mind when writing this. And though it does in fact hurt at times, it’s a necessity. Any substantial and lasting relationship should be based on a foundation of truth. If you base your relationship on a lie, even if it’s a small one, it will come back to haunt you. In my life, I’ve seen many relationships fail; most of which to omissions or lies. It’s important to tell the truth to everyone. Omissions or lies may seem like the easiest answer, but the effort it takes to keep that lie going can be mentally (and sometimes physically) draining. You may think a little white lie here or there won’t hurt, or won’t matter to a stranger, but the person who was just introduced as an acquaintance, or the person behind you in the checkout line may end up being your best friend, or even your spouse. This is why it’s important to always be honest from the beginning…you’ll thank me later.
